Overview of Position:

Position Responsibilities:
Assist Teacher in providing instruction and opportunities for learning to children ages 1-5 years of age in an integrated classroom setting. Assist with adherence to all state child care licensing, NAEYC, PTQ Level 4 and IDEM 5 Star Standards. In partnership with the teacher, assist with implementing developmentally appropriate activities in the areas of language, self-help, fine and gross motor, social/emotional skills, and cognitive skills Follow and help maintain daily routine and schedule while remaining flexible to individual factors that may alter routine. Help maintain classroom management. Help create a warm and accepting environment and atmosphere for children, parents, families, volunteers, community representatives and staff. Model appropriate language and behavior for children and families. Insure the safety of the children in assigned group. Assure that all children are supervised by sight and sound at all times. Conduct activities with groups or individual children as requested by the teacher. Observe and document child's skills for accurate progress reporting for ISTAR-KR, upon the request of classroom teacher. Work cooperatively with co-workers and the families of the child we serve. Report any signs of abuse to Preschool Directors or Agency Nurse. Share ideas for classroom activities and bulletin boards with teachers and other members of the team. Keep classroom materials clean & sanitary, including washing tables, toys, doing laundry, and over all cleaning up. Help keep room, storage closets, and cupboards in order. Help with the care of the physical needs of children including feeding, toileting, and washing hands. Meet the needs of the children through lifting (up to 50 pounds), bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, and/or twisting. As well, getting up and down from the floor and holding and moving the children. Move and play with children indoors and outdoors. Actively participate in parent involvement activities. Encourages parent involvement and parent participation in a variety of ways to include, but not be limited to, face to face, telephone and written contacts. Work as a classroom team to plan an environment and activities to meet the needs of assigned children. Perform all required documentation and reports and submit in a timely manner. Comply with regulatory health requirements, including: providing documentation of an annual physical within 30 days of hire and every two (2) years thereafter; and an annual TB test. Assist in setting up the room each day. Supervise children being transported by school corporation buses, as needed. Report any classroom concerns to the Preschool Directors. Display an overall commitment to the agency's mission, values, and vision while maintaining a positive, professional image. Portray a positive attitude. Attend meetings and trainings as requested. Attend or assist with "after hours" activities that benefit the agency which may include Preschool Open House, Graduation, Family Night, or other events. Participate in additional department projects as needed. Accept other duties as assigned by the Preschool Director.


Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED required. CDA or equivalent preferred. Individuals who do not have at least a CDA must agree to enroll in a program leading to a CDA or equivalent. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Bilingual in English/Spanish favorable. Experience working with young children preferred. Must have or be able to obtain CPR and first aid certification annually and perform as necessary. Must be at least 18 years of age.
